Hayama Kachi house is a Prairie Style residence originally designed by Arata Endo built, in 1928, in the suburbs of Tokyo.
Wright was an American architect, designer, writer, and educator. He designed more than 1,000 structures over a creative period of 70 years. Wright believed in designing in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. Endo was a Japanese architect. and his disciple. One of his most important works was the Kōshien Hotel, the architectural style being heavily influenced by Wright’s Imperial Hotel, Tokyo.
Kamiya Architects seem to recognize the importance of architectural preservation and take the opportunity to redefine the historical value of Prairie Style.
This historical building will be transformed into a residential hotel. Kamiya’s officials spoke to the media in an interview.
“Our scope of the project is to create contemporary design while respecting historical heritage, at the same time taking the chance to re-think and re-define the historic architectural value and integrate them with modern day living situation.”
Hayama Kachi house is registered as one of the tangible cultural property of Japan, thus the preservation of its historical value is the important aspect of the renovation process.
As the spa culture is very particular in traditional Japanese daily routine as it is very much alive in the modern-day, the company has decided to take the opportunity to transform the “Maiden Room” back into a spacious atrium-like spa area.
Natural scenery and broad beams are also a historical feature of Praire villas, which the company has decided to retain.
